Anti-Wrinkle Treatments

Whenever you make a facial expression, the muscles in your face are put to use. As we age and inevitably use these muscles, we develop the appearance of facial wrinkles. The more we relax these muscles, the longer we can keep these wrinkles at bay.* This brings us to the process of  anti wrinkle injections ( also known as Botox). The injections will actually relax the facial muscles. The effects can last for about 3-6 months.

Available treatments:

  • Horizontal Forehead Lines – Wrinkles that form when you raise your eyebrows.
  • Vertical Frown Lines (also know as the 11’s) – Diagonal or vertical lines that form when in between the brows (e.g. anger, frustration).
  • Crow’s Feet – Wrinkles that form in the outermost corner of the eyes; this more obvious when you squint.
  • Brow Lift – In some cases, a slight brow lift (around 2 to 3 millimeters) is possible with Botox when injected in the outer brow.
  • Smoker’s Lines – Tiny wrinkles that form when the lips pucker.
  • Jaw Reduction – Can soften the outer jaw.
  • Neck Bands – Can also help reduce the appearance of neck lines that form when one speaks or smiles.
  • Lip flip- Subtle enhancing of top lip.
  • Bunny Lines- The little lines around the nose.
  • Excessive Sweating (also known as hyperhidrosis) –  treatments are extremely effective in controlling intense sweating in the scalp, underarms, lower breasts, palms, and feet.
How to Ensure Consistent Results

In my practice, I carefully plan every single injection. This helps accomplish successful outcomes with each subsequent injection. In addition, mapping out every single treatment allows me to treat forehead lines and other areas with exact and reproducible specifications.

What is Profhilo?

Profhilo is the first BDDE-free stabilised injectable hyaluronic acid (HA) based product for treating skin laxity.

With one of the highest concentrations of HA on the market (64mg/2ml) it is not only boosting and hydrating the skin, but also remodels the ageing and sagging tissue.

Profhilo delivers great results as a treatment on its own or in combination with other aesthetics treatments currently on offer.

Exciting Development

Profhilo is creating a real buzz amongst the practitioners many referring to it “as something they have been waiting for” or as “the most exciting development in injectable treatments in a long time”.

Expert Review

Dr Emma Ravichandran says, “Anyone who presents with signs of skin ageing and is suitable for dermal filler treatment is also suitable for treatment with Profhilo. Once injected, the product immediately starts spreading due to the high concentration of HA and its cohesive nature. The BAP technique is an extremely effective and simple technique to use for injectors who are not comfortable with the use of cannulas.”

How does it work?

As a stabilised product Profhilo lasts in the skin around 28 days. During this time the stimulation of 4 different types of collagen and elastin takes place by slow release of HA.

The stimulation results in significant tissue improvement. Therefore we cannot say that Profhilo is a skin booster as it also has a significant tightening / lifting effect on the tissue.

Unique Product

There are many characteristics that make Profhilo unique from anything else available on the market right now. There is no BDDE content. It is thermally cross-linked generating stabilised hybrid co-operative complexes of H-HA and L-HA. Despite its high HA content, it has a low inflammatory profile coupled with pro-healing properties backed by clinical studies. To fully understand this new concept in anti-ageing medicine we have to take a look at the technology first.

How is it stabilised?

Profhilo is developed by using a patented technology resulting in hybrid cooperative complexes between high molecular weight HA and low molecular HA without the use of any chemical cross-linking compounds. These complexes increase the stability of HA to enzymatic and mechanical degradation.

Nahyco Technology

Profhilo is not a dermal filler or biorevitaliser – Profhilo has opened up a new injectable category – bioremodeling.

Thermal cross-linking changes the character and behavior of the HA resulting in the formation of co-operative hybrid complexes which modulate the tissues. This is also the explanation for the different biological behavior with respect to H-HA and L-HA alone. One of the main advantages is longevity. Hybrid cooperative complexes have proven to be very stable with natural hyaluronidase (BTH) digestion when compared to H-HA, widely used in biorevitalisation products, or L-HA alone resulting in the long-lasting release and the dual action of the two HA components. This dual action is ideal for remodeling skin laxity.

In Profhilo, L-HA is released slowly from the HA hybrid complexes and therefore does not trigger the first inflammatory cytokines making it very biocompatible. It also increases patient comfort during and after treatment and provides hydration to the skin especially in the epidermis – the Hydro effect.

H-HA in Profhilo provides a stable HA architecture in the dermis. This gives a volumetric effect – the Lift effect.

Another advantage of the stable co-operative hybrid complex when compared to H-HA and L-HA is the increase in the expression levels of type I and type III collagen in fibroblast and type IV and VII collagen in keratinocytes.

This results in improved skin quality and skin hydration both in the dermis and epidermis. There is also increased production of endogenous HA and elastin giving the skin a more youthful look.

Highest Concentration

Profhilo contains 32mg of low molecular weight HA (80-100Kda) and 32 mg of high molecular weight HA (1100-1400Kda). This gives one of the highest concentration of HA on the market totalling 64 mg of HA in a 2ml prefilled syringe. Remarkably this can still be extruded using a 29g needle.

BAP Technique

To maximise the diffusion in the malar and sub-malar areas:

  • The BAP were specifically chosen in anatomically respective areas
  • The dilution phenomenon of the product itself
  • 5 injections per side
  • Reduced pain (slow injection)
  • Lower possibility of bruising or hematoma
  • Reduced number of treatment sessions
  • Greater patient compliance

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers are used for a number of medical and aesthetic treatments. They are prescribed specifically for the patient and vary in terms of type of filler, longevity of product, and cost.

They are designed to be used in the face to enhance soft tissue volume and re-contour as well as fill in and smooth out depressed areas, such as around naso labial and marionette lines around the nose and mouth.

Prior to any Dermal Filler treatment, a full medical consultation will be completed.

  • Medical History
  • Identification of problem
  • Photographs
  • Diagnosis
  • Full Dermal Filler Treatment Plan and Costings

The types of Dermal Filler used in our UK Dermal Filler Clinics are dependent on the diagnosis of condition and the specific requirements of the patient.

The cost of the Dermal Filler in the UK will vary depending on which product is being used, the injector and the longevity of the product.

Common Treatments
  • Nasolabial folds – Nasolabial folds, or smile lines, are the lines that run vertically from the sides of the nose to the corners of the upper lip.
  • Marionette lines -Marionette lines, or mouth lines, are vertical wrinkles that form below the corners of the mouth, giving a sad or angry look to the face.
  • Cheek filling- Loss of volume during the aging process often results in hollows in the cheeks caused by fat loss under the skin. Cheek volumisation using facial fillers can restore the cheeks’ fullness for a more youthful appearance.
  • Chin enhancement- Many patients are unhappy with the shape of their chin and are surprised to learn that this can be quite quickly improved using modern aesthetic techniques.
  • Virtual face lift in the volume loss areas- Loss of volume during the aging process often results in hollows in the cheeks, jaw area and chin caused by fat loss under the skin.
  • Tear troughs-Commonly known as dark circles under the eye. Infraorbital hollowing can give patients a fatigued appearance, perhaps despite them having sufficient rest.
  • Fine lines and.wrinkles -Smoker’s lines, or vertical lines, are lip wrinkles, vertical wrinkles that form above the upper lip as a result of heredity, sun damage, and smoking.
  • Lip augmentation Thinning lips are a common reality of the aging process. Lip enhancement using facial fillers results in fuller, plumper lips and a more aesthetically pleasing, youthful appearance.
  • Temple hollows- The change in the rate of bone deposition and resorption leads to a decrease in the maxilla and enlargement of the bony orbits

The same attention to pain relief and careful follow up is paid to all dermal filler procedures.

What Dermal Fillers are used?

The most common filler used is a hyaluronic acid filler. Hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring in the body and is found in skin, joint fluid and in the eyeball. Ageing skin produces less hyaluronic acid and this contributes to wrinkles and dehydration. The hyaluronic acid fillers are reversible by injecting and enzyme called hyaluronidase, which dissolves the filler in 48 hours.

What are the side effects and risks of Dermal Fillers?

In the hands of a properly trained and experienced practitioner dermal fillers are very safe. Common side effects are swelling and bruising lasting up to 2 weeks depending on the filler used and its application. Most bad press has been with the use of permanent fillers, which we do not use.

Less common problems are visible filler under skin, lumps and nodules, accidental injection into blood vessels or external compression of vessels and granuloma formation.

We minimize risks by using a blunt cannula to inject in areas of higher risk such as tear troughs, jowl area and cheeks.

Lip Fillers/Augmentation

When people look at a face the eyes are drawn to the lips and a full smile is considered to be both attractive and sensual. Lip shape and fullness are very individual things and can vary from woman to woman and range from very full lips to those that are quite thin and as women get older their lips tend to lose plumpness as well.

Buff away the dead skin cells that make complexions look dull and contribute to clogged pores and spots. Dermaplaning clears the way so skin peels, facials, skin products and serums can get down into the skin where they need to be rather than sitting on the skin’s surface. It removes peach fuzz / vellus hair and creates clear channels into the skin as well as a soft, smooth surface for makeup to glide on flawlessly.

As we age, our cell turnover decreases and this affects our skin texture and tone, Dermaplaning gently buffs the top layer of dead skin cells away helps to reveal a brighter and smoother complexion.

Dermaplaning uses a surgical blade to perform a deep exfoliation. The edge of the scalpel is used at a 45-degree angle to scrape the build-up of dirt and oils in and around the skin and vellus hair.

The vellus hair is completely removed during the process leaving skin ultra-smooth and creating the perfect base for make-up application.

After eye makeup is removed the skin will be double-cleansed to create a clear canvas for treatment. Skin is then blotted and degreased using an oil-free toner. The dermaplaning procedure is methodically carried out working the whole face one area at a time. After the dermaplaning is complete we will apply a serum or moisturiser depending on skin type and a lip and eye product to finish.

The treatment is completely pain-free and no downtime is required.

Dermaplaning is a very safe procedure. Skin is stretched during the procedure and the blade is always held at a 45-degree angle to reduce the risk of nicking the skin with the blade. If you have dry patches of skin, a small amount of serum is applied to enable to the blade to glide across the skin smoothly.

Skin may be a little pink immediately after treatment due to being stretched but this normally subsides within an hour or so.

Peach fuzz/vellus hairs do not come back thicker and stronger. It will grow back at exactly the same rate, thickness and texture as before.

Dermaplaning is the ultimate glow treatment, skin is instantly ultra-smooth, glowing and refreshed, When combined with other therapies results are amplified.

Dermaplaning is three times as effective as microdermabrasion alone and creates the perfect base for makeup application.

Vitamin B12 Injections

B12 booster injection is popular with many people who want the wide-ranging health benefits that come from having high energy levels in the body. Our bodies rely on B vitamins which are involved in the health of our skin, eyes, hair, liver and even the nervous system. If you are feeling tired and run-down all the time, susceptible to colds and the flu, then you may have a vitamin B12 deficiency.

B12 is an water-soluble vitamin that you can easily become deficient in whether you follow a special diet or are pregnant or breastfeeding or are over a certain age. B12 is only found naturally in animal foods so deficiency is common, especially in people who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet. It plays a vital role in brain function and the production of DNA and red blood cells.

Vitamin B12 is essential for a healthy brain and immune system. Your metabolism suffers without it. It’s different from the other vitamins however, and is really only found in animal products (eggs, meat, shellfish and diary) and so vegans, vegetarians and celiacs often struggle to receive enough Vitamin B12.

Vitamin B12 deficiency signs include exhaustion, rapid heartbeat, brain fog, and other symptoms.

B12 injections  are the most common way to prevent or treat a deficiency and are very effective at raising blood levels of B12 and preventing/reversing a deficiency.

Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is an essential nutrient required to maintain good general health. Some of its most important functions include:
